ABOUT ME

My name is Jennifer and my goal is to inspire and educate individuals on the importance of recycling, waste reduction, and eco-friendly practices. I am a newly trained and certified Master Recycler here in Portland, Oregon. The purpose of the Master Recycler program is to train community members to help better educated the broader community to make curbside recycling more effective. I greatly enjoyed the training, continued training and helping friends, family and the community get answers to their recycling questions. But I want to do more.

I created the Rhone Street Recycle Station along my driveway fence to do just that...help my friends, neighbors and broader community to recycle those items that cannot be recycled in their curbside bins BUT can be recycled through smaller vetted third-party groups.

I am passionate about learning and sharing ways to help reduce our impact on the environment as well as improving our recycling efforts. I write a bi-weekly newsletter to share how much has been collected and recycled at my Recycle Station, tips for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of curbside recycling, resources  for more sustainable living, and new websites, apps, and more that people might not know about r, all elating to recycling and sustainability.

I hope you will join me and our broader community on a journey to create a greener, more sustainable future for all.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone for being here and doing more for our environment as well as to bring attention to the newly posted Rhone Street Recycle Station RULES. Your cooperation is essential for the continued success of this little neighborhood recycling waystation. Please review the following key points:

Understanding the Essential RECYCLE STATION RULES: Clean, Dry, and Properly Sorted. It's imperative that ALL items dropped off are Clean, Dry, and Properly Sorted according to the bin labels. This is the most critical aspect of ensuring effective recycling and preventing contamination.

Stay Informed About Updates: I am now requiring all participants to “Sign Up” for this Newsletter! Filled with updates, reminders, clarifications, and much more. This is a direct line of communication regarding important information.

Contributing to the Costs Associated with the RULES of Recycling: Please remember that adhering to the responsible recycling also involves understanding the associated costs. Every item collected incurs expense, like the $3 per bag fee with James, $10 per bag for styrofoam, and the $18 monthly Ridwell service. Your voluntary contributions help me to continue to afford offering this service.

Learning on Our Recycling Journey: The rules of effective recycling are often learned through experience. None of us are perfect, myself included. Understanding and adapting to best practices is key. While low global recycling rates can be discouraging, a significant factor is the failure to recycle properly. The Rhone Street Recycle Station was initially established to help my immediate neighbors recycle better. While I appreciate the 36% of my immediate neighbors that do participate, I sure hope to one day to see even greater participation.

Help Expand Participation! If you have a neighbor in the area who is interested in better recycling and would follow the Recycle Station RULES, please share my email, and invite folks to the station. Participation from outside the FoPo neighborhood is entirely welcome and already happening!

Thank you for your commitment to following the Rhone Street Recycle Station RULES and making a positive impact on our community's sustainability. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
